Anichebe DENIES he called for Frank Lampard to be axed by Everton

Ex-Everton striker Victor Anichebe bizarrely DENIES calling for Frank Lampard to be sacked despite claiming his old club would ‘100%’ go down ‘unless a change is made’… and says he only posted a photo of Sam Allardyce because he ‘found it funny’

  • Victor Anichebe has clarified comments he made about Frank Lampard’s future
  • The ex-Everton striker said the club would go down unless a change was made
  • But Anichebe now claims he was referring to a change of tactics or style
  • He also posted a photo of Sam Allardyce – hinting he should replace Lampard
  • However, he insists he only used the picture because he ‘finds it funny’

Former Everton star Victor Anichebe has denied that he called for the club to sack manager Frank Lampard – despite claiming the Toffees would be relegated ‘unless a change is made – saying he was referring to a change of tactics or mentality.

Lampard is under huge pressure after yet another defeat to Burnley on Wednesday night, with Everton facing a huge scrap to stay in the Premier League after a miserable season that has already seen Rafa Benitez axed by the club.

The former Chelsea boss was seen as someone who could lift the club, but the club have only won two league games since arriving in February. After the latest 2-1 loss to the Clarets, ex-striker Anichebe wrote on Instagram saying Everton would ‘100 per cent’ go down if Everton did not make a change.

But now Anichebe has clarified his comments after saying the team would be relegated ‘100 per cent if a change isn’t made’

The former striker gave a scathing assessement of his old side’s display against Burnley and alluded to doubts about Lampard’s future

He said the decision to appoint Lampard was ‘absurd’, adding: ‘The players aren’t good enough but neither is Frank.’ He also posted a picture of former boss Sam Allardyce with the words: ‘I said it weeks ago… y’all laughed. Some said rather go down with dignity. Okkkkk.’

But now Anichebe has moved to clarify his comments , writing ‘not once did I say sack him’, while also stressing he uploaded the picture of Allardyce because he ‘finds it funny’.

‘I wasn’t even gonna speak on this but I genuinely can’t stand some media,’ the 33-year-old wrote on his social media account.

He also appeared to hint Sam Allardyce should take over, before stressing he uploaded the photo of the former Toffees boss it because he ‘found it funny’

But Anichebe said he wasn’t suggesting Allardyce as a successor, saying he just found the photo of the veteran boss ‘funny’

‘I didn’t call for Lampard to be sacked. Also let’s think about this for a moment… who the f*** am I to call for anyone to get sacked? I have no influence. Nor does my opinion matter.

‘I posted the same Allardyce picture weeks ago as I find him funny because any team that’s in trouble he gets linked to (those who follow me know this already).

‘Anyway the reactions were funny so I posted it again.

‘Then I said something needs to change… how does that mean Lamps should be sacked? Change of mentality, training change, change of style, I’m not a manager – how do I know? Not once did I say sack him!’

In Anichebe’s full rant about Everton this week, he started by criticising Lampard’s decision to bring on Salomon Rondon so late in the game and said neither the players not the manager were good enough.

Lampard has become one of the favourites to be sacked with some bookmakers this week

He wrote: ‘Too late… should’ve brought him on 10 mins ago it was obvious… DCL (Dominic Calvert-Lewin) has been poor.

‘The players aren’t good enough but neither is Frank. As much as I love him as a player and he looks a top guy.

‘Everton will 100 per cent go down if a change isn’t made.’

He then posted the photo of Allardyce before letting rip at the club’s board for ‘the money they’ve wasted’ and their poor managerial appointments.

‘So… The players are responsible first and foremost. But Everton’s board is absolutely horrendous,’ he added.

‘The money they’ve wasted, the sackings of influential staff like (Dan Donachie), not letting Marcel Brands actually do his job, bringing in Rafa (Benitez), creating a complete disconnect with fans and club.

Everton are just one point above the relegation zone with ten games left to play

‘Next – appointing Lampard (who is a good coach) but appointing him when you know you’re in a relegation battle with a tough run in… was absurd… him getting Alli who is a luxury player… in a relegation fight… baffling.

‘If something doesn’t happen tonight they are 100 per cent going down. At the moment it’s 60 per cent. Keep the faith.’

Everton are just one point above the Premier League drop zone with ten games left to play. Lampard himself chose to stay positive after the defeat to Burnley, telling his players to ‘keep fighting and look forward’.

‘Listen, the players have to work and fight to get through this if it’s a lack of confidence,’ he said. ‘We are in a battle. If we didn’t know it, we do now. We’re still above Burnley in the table so we have to keep fighting and looking forward.

‘All the teams around us are in similar positions. You look at the results it’s why we are where we are, because of results over a long period and the same for other teams around us.’
