Andy Ruiz Jr gives his prediction for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury
Andy Ruiz Jr is backing Tyson Fury to beat Anthony Joshua when the two meet in their unification showdown later this year.
A deal for IBF, WBO and WBA (Super) champion Joshua to take on WBC king Fury in what will surely be the biggest fight in British boxing history is edging closer with June touted as a possible date.
Ruiz Jr dethroned Joshua in one of the biggest upsets in recent memory in June 2019, shocking the Briton in New York before being outboxed by Joshua in a rematch six months later.
Joshua successfully defended his titles against Kubrat Pulev in December, flooring the Bulgarian in the third and getting the finish via a superb right hand in the ninth after some stern resistance from his veteran opponent.
Ruiz Jr was unimpressed with Joshua’s performance that night however and believes Fury’s awkward style will be too much for the former Olympian.
‘I think it’s going to be an interesting fight,’ Ruiz Jr told Little Giant Boxing.
‘Tyson Fury has a weird style, he’s tall, he fights tall.
‘I see Tyson Fury winning that fight. I wasn’t too impressed with Anthony Joshua’s last performance, but he got the job done and you move on to the next.
‘I think Tyson Fury might get it, you never know. It depends how awkward he is.
‘Anthony hasn’t fought anybody who boxes and moves around.’
Ruiz Jr has not fought since his defeat to Joshua in December 2019 but is targeting a return to the ring in April with Chris Arreola one name in the frame for his comeback fight.
