Everton winger Andros Townsend mimicked Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark celebration after firing Everton level against Manchester United in the early kick-off on Saturday. Townsend steered his effort into the bottom corner after Everton had broken quickly following a United corner.

Man Utd had battled to a 1-0 lead at the break courtesy of Anthony Martial’s strike after the France international was recalled to the starting line-up by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But United failed to build on their advantage as Everton held firm and finally drew level thanks to Townsend’s strike after 64 minutes.

The England international then ran to the corner of the pitch, jumped into the air, turned around and flung his arms out Ronaldo-style.

United had once again struggled to find their best form against a resilent Everton at Old Trafford, although visiting keeper Jordan Pickford had been forced into a string of saves.

Solskjaer had stunned the home fans before kick-off by naming Ronaldo on the bench, despite the forward’s good form since returning to the club this summer.

Ronaldo had fired five goals in five games after signing from Juventus – but surprisingly there was no place for him in Solskjaer’s starting line-up.

The Portugal international was finally introduced just before the hour-mark as the Red Devils chased a second goal.

But it was Everton who instead found the back of the net as Townsend was set-up by Abdoulaye Doucoure seven minutes after Ronaldo had entered proceedings.

And the Toffees had the ball in the back of the net for a second time with five minutes remaining as Tom Davies set-up Yerry Mina to fire home.

But that goal was disallowed as Man Utd continued to push for a winner at the other end.

Solskjaer’s men couldn’t find that elusive second goal, however, as they dropped yet more Premier League points in front of their home fans.

Man Utd had already suffered home defeat to Aston Villa last weekend and Solskjaer will now be under huge pressure after his decision to snub Ronaldo.
