Andreas Christensen reverts to Chelsea pic after removing Barca from his Insta

Andreas Christensen has changed his Instagram profile picture back to one of him in a Chelsea shirt, sparking rumours that he could return to Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old defender also deleted a post announcing his move to Barcelona, fuelling fears among fans of the Catalan club that the Danish star might never play for the club. Christensen – along with Franck Kessie – joined Barcelona on free transfers earlier this summer.

But with just a couple of days remaining until the start of the new La Liga season, neither has been registered to play due to Barca's chronic financial issues.

According to ESPN, Christensen and Kessie are able to execute a clause that allows them to leave the Nou Camp for free if they are not registered before Saturday's game against Rayo Vallecano.

That means they could both depart the club without playing a competitive match for Barca. Both players have featured in the club's pre-season campaign, including in their 1-0 friendly win over Real Madrid.

But Christensen's foray onto Instagram has sparked rumours among Chelsea supporters that he could leave Barcelona in the coming days or weeks and return to Stamford Bridge.

"Barcelona will probably find a way, but if they don’t and Christensen leaves, Chelsea could theoretically get him back, something to keep an eye on," suggested one.

As another said: "Imagine Christensen returning back to Chelsea after Saturday." A third user added: "We finally got rid of Christensen & he’s already being linked back with a move to Chelsea."

As a fourth commenter chimed in with: "Christensen back to Chelsea because Barcalona can’t sign him Christensen posting lots of Chelsea stuff on his IG. This is going to be hilarious."

Christensen made 160 appearances for the Blues between 2014 and 2022, helping them to win the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the FA Cup.
