Amad Diallos loan from Man Utd cancelled at last moment as injury confirmed

Manchester United star Amad Diallo’s loan move to Feyenoord has been cancelled at the last minute due to an injury.

The 19-year-old, who arrived from Atalanta in January after a €25m deal was previously agreed, impressed in the 2020/21 campaign with a goal and assist in seven senior appearances.

And it appeared that the Ivory Coast international would be heading out on loan to the Dutch league, continuing his development at a competitive level.

But the club revealed that it had fallen through due to picking up a serious injury at the last minute.

A statement on their website on Monday reads: “Manchester United can confirm that Amad has sustained a thigh muscle injury in training and is likely to be out for six weeks.

“Unfortunately, this happened just before his planned loan move to Feyenoord.

“Amad will remain at United and rehabilitate back to full fitness.”

This was also confirmed by the Dutch side as Feyenoord’s technical director Frank Arnesen over the weekend.

Quote in AD, the club official said: "He got injured, it's cancelled.

“Too bad, everything was done. I've talked a lot with the people at Manchester United, but it's more sensible to let him recover at that club.

"It may be a while before he comes back."

Diallo’s place in senior-squad training last season as well as four goals in three U23 appearances suggested he would have a bigger role in the 2021/22 campaign.

But the Ivorian’s chances of senior football this season took a big hit as Old Trafford icon Cristiano Ronaldo returned after 12 years to lead the attacking threat.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hoping that a loan would give the teenager some valuable experience.

Speaking to MUTV after United’s 1-0 win against Wolves, the manager said: “Yes I do [expect him to go out on loan]. It’s not 100 per cent signed but we’ve agreed.

“I don’t have to say which team it is yet, but we’ve found a place that Amad feels excited about and we feel excited about.”
