Rangers legend Ally McCoist delivered a trademark piece of commentary as Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher narrowly escaped a red card against Cardiff City. The decision arguably saw the Reds handed a favour by referee Andy Madley during their bid to reach the FA Cup fifth round.
Kelleher came racing off his line shortly after half-time to try and intercept a promising Cardiff through ball.
And while he came within inches of getting there, Cardiff forward Mark Harris arrived a split second before, prompting screams from the travelling fans when Kelleher brought the onrushing forward down.
Not only did the Bluebirds put forward the argument that Kelleher had denied a goal-scoring opportunity, but the Irishman’s studs also appeared to be off the ground going into the challenge.
Madley prompted outrage on the Cardiff bench by brandishing a yellow card, and McCoist did not take too kindly to Kelleher’s decision-making either.
While on ITV commentaries duties, the Scotsman said: “I don’t know what he’s thinking. His geography is all over the place. Misses the ball and catches him.”
