Juventus boss Max Allegri takes aim at Manchester United transfer target Paulo Dybala for ‘not being himself’ hinting that his attitude slumped after being labelled the ‘new Messi’

  • Paulo Dybala becomes a free agent this summer after seven years at Juventus
  • Boss Max Allegri took a parting swipe at the 28-year-old by disputing his attitude
  • He hinted that the forward struggled to focus after being called the ‘new Messi’
  • The Argentine is reportedly linked with summer moves to the Premier League

Juventus manager Max Allegri has taken a swipe at free agent Paulo Dybala as the Argentine prepares for his future away from Turin.

The 28-year-old called a halt on his Juventus career following a seven-year spell with the Italian giants and has since been linked with moves to the Premier League, namely to Arsenal and Manchester United.

But Allegri, who has been Dybala’s superior since returning to the Old Lady in 2021, has called the striker’s attitude into question.

Paulo Dybala’s Juventus contract expires on July 1 which makes him a free agent this summer

Max Allegri hinted that being called the ‘new Messi’ affected the striker’s attitude at Juventus

‘Paulo needs to go back to being himself,’ he told DAZN.

‘There was a time where he got all carried out by those who labelled him as “the new Messi”

‘A player can’t go around trying to play, to think or to be like someone else.’

Despite challenging Dybala’s mentality, the 54-year-old head coach was full of flattery when it came to discussing his talent on the pitch.

The Argentina international has contributed 115 goals and 48 assists for Juventus since arriving from Palermo in 2015.

Allegri said: ‘He still has lots to give because he has an extraordinary technical ability, he is a wonderful player.’

During his seven-year spell at Juventus, the centre-forwarded scored 115 goals and assisted 48

It is unlikely Dybala will sit in the shop window for too long this summer, having already attracted interest from several top flight clubs across Europe.

New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly eager to secure the attacker’s services during his first transfer window at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have flirted with the prospect of recruiting Dybala to fill the void left by centre-forward Alexandre Lacazette, who agreed an exit to former club Lyon on Thursday.

A sideways move to another Serie A giant is also not out of the question, with Inter reportedly keen to partner Dybala alongside club top scorer and Argentina compatriot Lautaro Martinez.
