Trent Alexander-Arnold should retire from England duty if he is not named in their World Cup squad, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
The Liverpool right back was once again not used at all by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate in the final international break before the tournament, suggesting he could well miss out on the final group of 26.
And Agbonlahor told Talksport that there is no point Alexander-Arnold continuing to accept call-ups from his country under Southgate, before blasting his statement on Newcastle right back Kieran Trippier having a better all-round game as an ‘insult’.

The Liverpool right back was once again not used at all in the most recent international break
He said: ‘If I were Trent, I would retire from international duty if I don’t get in a World Cup squad. I’d retire until a new manager took charge of England and gave me the opportunity. 100 per cent.
‘Because what’s the point going away in these international breaks (without playing)? You could stay with your club, rest and prepare yourself for Liverpool. And for Southgate to come out and say Trippier is all-round better than Trent….
‘I think that’s an insult. I do like Trippier but Trent is an all-round better player than Kieran Trippier. (Kyle) Walker and (Reece) James, for me, are better than Trent but don’t say Trippier, come on. Joke’s over Gareth.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has insisted Kieran Trippier is a better all-round player
‘I wouldn’t surprise me if he did retire. We’ve seen players in the past retire from England (duty) because they weren’t getting the opportunities.’
Manchester City Kyle Walker and Chelsea’s Reece James are currently preferred at right back, with Trippier, who can play on the left side as well, seemingly ahead of Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order too.
Alexander-Arnold’s lack of defensive ability and unsuitability to England’s system appear to be why Southgate does not seem to trust the 23-year-old.
