Alexander-Arnold: I'm feeling 100% after thigh injury with England
Trent Alexander-Arnold insists he’s feeling 100% after the thigh injury which kept him out of Euro 2020, but fears for Liverpool team-mate Andy Robertson after he was forced off with ankle injury in pre-season friendly
- Trent Alexander-Arnold was able to complete 90 minutes against Athletic Bilbao
- The Liverpool right back suffered a thigh injury just before Euro 2020 started
- However, he has steadily built up his fitness and hopes to start against Norwich
- The 22-year-old also had sympathy for Andy Robertson after his ankle injury
Trent Alexander-Arnold has declared himself 100% fit ahead of the new Premier League season after completing 90 minutes for Liverpool in a friendly against Athletic Bilbao.
The 22-year-old agonisingly missed Euro 2020 after sustaining a thigh injury in a warm-up against Austria less than two weeks before the tournament started.
However, he has managed to build up his fitness gradually over pre-season ahead of this Saturday’s trip to new boys Norwich, telling the club’s official website: ‘I’ve started pre-season quite well, in training I’ve been putting the work in, got the all-clear from the medical staff early doors in pre-season and have been able to push on, get fit and get the full 90 under my belt today (against Bilbao).

The Liverpool right back’s thigh problem cruelly ended his hopes of appearing at Euro 2020
But the 22-year-old is now raring to go and targeting a start next Saturday against Norwich
‘I think it’s perfect timing the way the games have gone in pre-season, just building up to this: started at 30 (minutes), then 45, a couple of 60s under the belt and then today obviously getting 90.
‘I think we’ve timed it well and it gives us a good couple of days to recover and then go on to Norwich next week.’
The game on Sunday saw 40,000 fans converge on Anfield as Diogo Jota gave the hosts a 13th-minute lead before Alex Berenguer equalised shortly after the break as the game finished 1-1.

The one major downside was Andy Robertson hobbling off after clutching his left ankle
The one big negative from the contest was an injury to star left back Andy Robertson, with the Scot left in agony on the turf clutching his left ankle after deflecting Berenguer’s cross behind for a corner late in the first half before hobbling off, with the prognosis unclear.
His team-mate knows from recent experience what it’s like to endure a spell on the sidelines and had positive words for the 27-year-old.
‘I think you know it’s going to be quite bad if Robbo has to come off. It’s not something that he normally does so it’s disappointing to see, but I’m sure he will bounce back as soon as he can.’
