Alex Greenwood ‘pulls a Sergio Ramos’ with ‘old school reducer’ on Australia ace
Lionesses' star Alex Greenwood has been praised on social media for pulling an 'old school reducer' on Aussie's star Sam Kerr.
England and Australia clashed in the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup on Wednesday morning – in a game that marked Kerr's first start of the tournament. England's players were keen to leave on Kerr in the opening minutes, as she was on the end of several heavy challenges.
None more-so than from Greenwood, who scythed Kerr down from behind, with fans comparing the challenge to similar ones made in the past by ex-Real Madrid bruiser Sergio Ramos. Nevertheless, fans were quick to praise the full-back on social media.
"Greenwood letting her know she’s there… old school 'first few mins get into them'," one fan joked. While a second added: "Alex Greenwood taking one for the team with a magnificent reducer!"

Kerr, who was the Australian poster girl of the tournament, has been slowly building up her fitness heading into the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the game, Sarina Wiegmann said: "Of course she's a threat. She's a very good player. There's lot of respect. But there is more than Sam Kerr, because at the end it is always a team performance.
"There is a lot of pressure on [Kerr] because everyone expects things from her. Australia is not just Sam Kerr. Yes, we have a plan if she starts. She can play and she can start on the bench, so that's the situation."
