Alan Shearer’s wife asked ‘what the f*** have you done’ before transfer move

Alan Shearer is one of the greatest players to ever grace the Premier League, and while he scored the majority of goals at Newcastle, it was at Blackburn where he fulfilled his dream.

As part of one of the best strike partnerships the Prem has ever seen alongside Chris Sutton, Shearer got his hands on the Premier League trophy. And while his move to Lancashire had a happy ending, it didn't start all too well for the goal-getter.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer revealed that his wife, Lainya Shearer, was almost reduced to tears when she first set eyes on the city. Lainya, who pregnant, couldn't believe what her husband had done.

"I told you what happened when I was driving through Blackburn for the first time with my missus," said Shearer. "When she was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, 'What the f*** have you done?'"

His co-hosts can barely contain their laughter at Shearer's response given they both had the chance to take in more exotic locales in their foreign forays.

Richards, 35, spent one season on loan at Fiorentina prior to leaving Manchester City in 2015, while Lineker won a Copa del Rey and a European Cup Winners' Cup during his three-year stint at Barcelona.

Shearer added he had chances to move abroad during his career, with offers from the likes of Juventus and Barcelona, but he opted to stay on these shores for the good of his family.

The striker and Lainya, who have been married since 1991, have three children together, Hollie, Will and Chloe.

Hollie, 28, is a singer-songwriter who is currently dating England rugby ace Joe Marchant, while 32-year-old Chloe is a sports agent.

Will, 23, used to be a promising rugby union star, having spent a number of years in Newcastle School for Boys' team.
