  • Saudi Pro League clubs have embarked on a recruitment drive of star players
  • Tottenham are expected to resist Al-Ittihad’s approach for Son this summer

Son Heung-min is reportedly the target of a £51million move by Al-Ittihad, with the Tottenham star the latest player to be linked with a switch to the Saudi Pro League.

Al Ittihad have already secured the high-profile signing of Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and are expected to complete a deal for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

The Saudi Pro League side have now set their sights on Son, according to ESPN.

Al-Ittihad have reportedly approached the South Korean forward with an offer of a four-year deal with £26million-a-season.

The club are expected to make an opening offer to Tottenham of £51m plus bonuses for Son.

Tottenham will reportedly resist offers for the forward, who has been a key player for the North London side.

Son has scored 145 goals in 372 games for Tottenham since joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

The 30-year-old admitted earlier this month that he had ‘struggled significantly’ last season because he was forced to play with pain for nine months.

Son, who lifted the Premier League Golden Boot award last summer, scored 13 fewer goals during the 2022-23 season and struggled for form

His struggles came amid a disappointing season for the club, with Spurs finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Should Son make the move to Al-Ittihad, he would be reunited with former Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who led the Saudi Arabian side to the title last season.

Earlier this month, the Saudi Public Investment Fund acquired 75% ownership stakes in four of the nation’s biggest clubs – Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, and Al-Hilal – with the goal of positioning top talent at each team.

Wolves’ Ruben Neves is expected to complete a £47million switch from Wolves to Saudi club Al-Hilal, while Hakim Ziyech, Romelu Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have also been linked with moves.
