Al Hilal have opened negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a lucrative deal for Spain international striker Alvaro Morata.

The most successful club in the Saudi Arabian Pro League, Al Hilal have launched a bold recruitment drive which has already seen them sign Ruben Neves from Wolves for £47m and they are finalising a £20m move for Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

They have now opened discussions with Atletico Madrid over a £20m deal for Morata fresh off the back of his Nations League finals win with Spain.

Mail Sport understands the contract could be worth around £40m a year for Morata.

The 30-year old former Chelsea forward scored 20 goals for club and country last season, including three for Spain at the Qatar World Cup.

His signing would be viewed as another coup for Saudi Arabia as they push to recruit the biggest names in world football.

Mail Sport reported earlier this week how Saudi Arabia’s football elite have been based at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in London’s Portman Square conducting a series of meetings as they broker some of the biggest transfers of the summer.

Chelsea have benefited with Koulibaly, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech all closing on moves away while NGolo Kante agreed to join Al Ittihad on a free and a contract worth over £80m. Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and Romelu Lukaku have also been approached.

Morata has won almost every honour there is to win during his club career with Real Madrid, Juventus, Chelsea and Atletico. He has scored 30 goals for Spain and notched 15 in 45 appearances.
