An Ajax game has been halted after an opposition player suffered an appalling injury.
Ajax, 3-2 up at the time, were playing away at RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie when the incident occurred in the second half. Waalwijk goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen was left motionless after being involved in a collision with another player.
After medics rushed on to treat him, screens were put up around the player. Reports in the Netherlands say Vaessen had to be resuscitated before being stretched off the pitch and taken to hospital. Meanwhile, concerned players were left in tears at the distressing scenes.

Vaessen, 28, has spent his entire professional career with RKC, making more than a century of appearances for the club. Following the stoppage, Ajax tweeted: "The match has been temporarily halted due to an apparently serious medical situation. We are thinking of you, Etienne [heart emoji]."
They then added: "This is about more than football. Praying you're okay, Etienne."
RKC indicated the match would not be restarted, posting: "Dear RKC members, The match has finally been stopped. As soon as we know more, we will get back to you. Thanks for now and have a good trip home."
Fans reportedly sang 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as Vaessen was carried off. A subsequent update offered hope with an RKC spokesperson saying Vaessen was conscious in the ambulance.
Fans were quick to wish Vaessen well. One posted: "Hopefully he makes a full recovery." Another said: "Football fans and the players around the world are praying for Etienne and his loved ones."
A third added: "Good luck to all, especially Vaessen and family." A fourth said: "Lots of strength to you and everyone involved."
