AI names 20 teams in ‘ultimate Prem line-up’ and it’s bad news for Sunderland
ChatGPT has chipped in with their suggestion for the 'Ultimate Premier League line-up' – but there are several high-profile omissions.
The debate surrounding the ideal English top flight has been rife on social media since the curtain fell on the 2022/23 season. On a dramatic final day, Leeds United and Leicester City were confirmed as the final two relegation candidates, joining Southampton in the Championship next term.
The trio are set to be replaced by Burnley, Sheffield United and play-off final winners Luton Town when the new campaign kicks off in August, the latter already receiving a barrage of abuse from supporters online for their 10,356-capacity stadium.

Rising from non-league to the pinnacle of English football in just nine years, its safe to say the Hatters aren't in many fans' 'Ultimate Premier League' line-up and the Bedfordshire outfit have also missed out on AI's dream top-flight, which is based on historical success, overall performance, and popularity of the clubs.
Unsurprisingly leading the way are the traditional top six. Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea occupy the Champions League positions, while Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and relegation-threatened Everton bank the three remaining European spots.

The revitalised Newcastle United and Aston Villa join Leeds United in the top half. Leicester City, West Ham United and Southampton are accompanied by four former champions of England in Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, and Sheffield United. Norwich City, Middlesbrough and Fulham complete the top 20.
The result is likely to leave plenty of opposition fans seething. Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace have all spent significant time in the top flight but none are granted a place in ChatGPT's 'Ultimate Premier League'.
The Black Cats in particular can feel especially aggrieved. The northeast outfit have spent 87 seasons competing amongst England's elite, a record that is only bettered by nine other top-flight sides.
Sunderland, though, have not appeared in the Premier League since 2017 after finishing at the foot of the table.
