AHEAD OF THE GAME: Newcastle being lined up for next All or Nothing
AHEAD OF THE GAME: Newcastle United are being lined up by Amazon for their next fly-on-the-wall All or Nothing documentary… despite the club turning down offers from several production companies after Saudi takeover
- Amazon want to give Newcastle the behind-the-scenes documentary treatment
- West Ham chiefs are split after being offered a cut-price deal for Memphis Depay
- The Women’s Super League will have to wait for a new chief executive
- Nottingham Forest plan on siding with the ‘big six’ on Premier League issues
Amazon are targeting Newcastle to feature in their next All Or Nothing documentary as they look for the next Premier League side to be given the behind-the-scenes treatment.
Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal have all welcomed Amazon’s cameras into their clubs with plans being worked on to release the next instalment in the All Or Nothing series in two years’ time, which would involve filming taking place over the course of next season.
A documentary featuring Newcastle would be an intriguing proposition given the transformation of the club that is taking place under their new Saudi owners, as Amazon would demand access to the hierarchy as well as Eddie Howe and the playing staff.
Newcastle have already rejected several offers from production companies touting documentary projects since the Saudi takeover last year as the owners were more focused on internal matters at St James’ Park.

Hammers baulking on Memphis
West Ham’s hierarchy are split after being offered a cut-price deal to sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona this week.
Co-owner David Sullivan is understood to be willing to press ahead with a deal he regards as good value for money, but manager David Moyes has made it clear that he wants to club to pursue alternative targets.
The former Manchester United striker is being touted around Europe due to Barcelona’s desperation to offload players to reduce their wage bill and enable them to register new signings in time for their season opener against Rayo Vallecano tonight.
Barca had hoped to secure a fee for Depay but with no club matching their valuation of a player who earns over £200,000 per week, they have indicated they are willing to release him. Juventus are set to take advantage if they can agree personal terms.

New WSL chief is put on hold
THE FA have delayed plans to appoint a chief executive to run the Women’s Super League in an indication of the difficulties the governing body may face in building on England’s Euro 2022 win.
The appointment of a chief executive with a brief to set up a new company to run the WSL from the 2023-24 has been in the pipeline for some time but has stalled due to clubs demanding more consultation and the original timetable of advertising the post on the back of Euro 2022 has slipped. The WSL has been run by a seven-strong board, chaired by former Channel 5 chief executive Dawn Airey, in conjunction with the FA since 2019 but there is recognition at Wembley that they need greater commercial acumen to grow the women’s game.
The new chief executive will report to the existing WSL board and be given the task of setting up an independent company to run the league from the 2023-24 season onwards, although that target may also be delayed.
Forest cosy up to the Big Six
Nottingham Forest have already made an impact off the pitch since their return to the Premier League with the club taking a conscious decision to align themselves with the ‘Big Six’ in shareholder meetings.
Whereas most newly-promoted clubs keep their heads down initially, Forest have made it clear they see themselves as being in the top flight to stay and intend to side with the big boys.
The move reflects the ambition of owner Evangelos Marinakis and could affect the balance of power in the top flight by enabling the ‘Big Six’ to block proposals from the remaining clubs. The number of votes required for any changes to be introduced is 14.
