Aguero’s Barcelona nightmare continues after Messi farewell
Sergio Aguero’s nightmare start to life in Barcelona has gone from bad to worse after suffering a calf injury that will sideline him for the opening weeks of the season.
The Argentine has still yet to be registered by the Catalan giants, as their dire financial problems are forcing them to delay the official signings of Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia, who have all joined the club on free transfers this summer.
According to reports, Aguero’s primary reason for joining Barcelona was to link up with compatriot and long time close friend Lionel Messi, who had been at the club since he was thirteen.
However, the diminutive icon has now left the club with Barcelona, citing the stringent financial restrictions placed on the club by La Liga as the sole reason why the club could not renew Messi’s contract.
The news is a blow to fellow countryman Aguero, who may have hoped getting into action for his new club would help him get his Barcelona career going.
But Aguero is now set to miss FC Barcelona’s opening game against Real Sociedad on 15 August, with the expected timeline for his recovery set for around four to six weeks.

Barcelona are due to face Athletic Club and Getafe in the weeks proceeding their tricky fixture against Sociedad. There is no doubt that the Barcelona boss will hope to get their new striker fit and ready as soon as possible.
The club confirmed the injury situation in an official statement ahead of their Joan Gamper pre-season trophy fixture against Juventus on Sunday.
"Philippe Coutinho has been passed fit to return to action, but Clement Lenglet and Sergio Aguero are both out," a statement on the club website reads.
"The French defender has a tendon problem in his right knee and is ruled out, with his return depending on his recovery.
"The Argentine striker has a right calf injury and will undergo more tests to find out the exact extent of the injury."
Barcelona fans were concerned that Aguero would not continue with the club following reports suggesting he was looking for a way out after Messi’s departure.
However, the forward eased fears on Saturday as Aguero arrived at the Barcelona training ground with the clear message to reporters: “don’t worry, you have me all year long.”
