Aguero 'tempted by Chelsea move amid ambition to break records'

Sergio Aguero’s desire for a shock free transfer to Chelsea ‘is fuelled by his ambition to break into the Premier League’s all-time top scorers podium’ with the legendary Man City striker keen to stay in England

  • Sergio Aguero is reportedly tempted by a move to Chelsea this summer window
  • The Argentine will leave Manchester City after a decade-long stay at the club
  • Sportsmail reported that the 32-year-old’s preference is to stay in England
  • Aguero’s goal to break Premier League records is behind  his desire to stay

Sergio Aguero’s ambition to break Premier League goalscoring records is behind his desire to stay in England, in a boost to Chelsea’s hopes of landing the free agent.

Sportsmail reported last week that Chelsea lead the race for the Manchester City star, who is to end his decade-long stay in the North West this summer when his contract expires.

Aguero will have offers from the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but his preference would be to remain in the Premier League as the 32-year-old believes he still has much to give in this country.

And adding to his Premier League goals tally is a major reason as to Aguero’s desire to stay in English football, according to the Evening Standard.

The 32-year-old currently sits in fourth spot in the Premier League’s leading scorers charts, with his 181 goals just six behind Andy Cole’s 187 in third.

Alan Shearer’s 260 strikes may be an unreachable objective for Aguero, but a further two or three years in England could see him pass Wayne Rooney’s tally of 208.

Aguero will be the biggest free agent in world football this summer after City announced they would not renew his contract last month.

Chelsea are looking to bolster their attack and provide support for Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, who have failed to set the league alight since arriving for big money last summer.

The Blues are one of a host of clubs chasing Borussia Dortmund’s £154m star Erling Haaland, and would have to see off City, Man United, Barca and Madrid for the 20-year-old hotshot.

Chelsea are the frontrunners to sign Aguero and have been heavily  linked with a move for him

The Blues are looking to add firepower to their frontline with Timo Werner misfiring at present

Chelsea wanted to sign Aguero in 2011 when he played for Atletico Madrid and they are one of only a handful of clubs who could pay the salary of more than £13million he has commanded at City but others who have the financial resources — Manchester United and Liverpool — are not at the table.

Aguero would never ruin the relationship he has with City fans by moving across town, and Liverpool’s main aim is to sign a new central defender this summer with RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate and Ben White of Brighton being considered.

The idea of Aguero still playing in the Premier League, however, is intriguing and Chelsea are determined to bring in more firepower with Werner, last summer’s big signing, still struggling to adapt to the division’s demands.
