Aguero makes claim in Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes debate
Sergio Aguero has waded in on the age-old debate about who is the best out of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes, saying his former teammate is the greatest out of the trio.
The former Manchester City forward was answering questions on Twitter when someone asked who he thought the best out the former Premier League stars was – and he bluntly responded with: “Lampard”.
The three played for Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United respectively, and owing to the fact they each played in a similar position and had a similar ability, football fans have debated for years who precisely was the best.
However, famously the trio was never able to gel together as a collective on the international stage – leaving the nation to rue what a missed opportunity the "Golden Generation" was.
Aguero played with Lampard during the 2014-15 season at the Etihad after moving from Stamford Bridge. The midfielder played 38 games and scored eight goals before moving to the MLS to play for New York City FC.
Meanwhile, Aguero has said that he does not think he will be able to sprint again as his heart “doesn’t work” properly.
The 33-year-old was forced to retire from football last year after it was revealed he had a heart condition.

In an emotional press conference in December, he said he was no longer able to play football again – less than a year into his tenure at Barcelona.
The veteran experienced chest pains and breathing issues during the first half of Barcelona's 1-1 home draw with Alaves in October 30.
Speaking about his health on a Twitch stream, he said: “If I try to play football now, I run out of breath.
“Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be able to sprint again. I just feel like my heart doesn't work properly.”
Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and is the club’s top scorer with 260 goals in total.
