Agbonlahor shuns Salah and De Bruyne with surprise pick for Player of the Season
Former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor striker has shunned favourites Mo Salah and Kevin de Bruyne to win the Premier League Player of the Season by naming a surprise pick.
With the top flight coming to a dramatic conclusion, as well as a title and a relegation spot to be decided, there is the small matter of the Player of the Season award. Having played a key role in their respective title races, Manchester City's De Bruyne and Liverpool's Salah are the two front runners.
Team-mates Phil Foden and Virgil van Dijk have also been in the conversation recently. But Agbonlahor reckons there is another name who should be in the running: Son Heung-min.
The Tottenham forward is second in the Premier League scoring charts after a fine run of form to put Spurs in contention to reach the top four. And Agbonlahor reckons his goalscoring bravado means he'd go for him over Salah or De Bruyne.
He said on talkSPORT: "I know it might be controversial but Son. He's scored 18-19 Premier League goals, no penalties, he's been on fire. Left foot, right foot, smashing 'em in. If I could vote for a player now for the Premier League player of the season, I'd pick Son."
Salah has struggled for goals in the second half of the season, scoring just twice since mid-March, both of those coming in the 4-0 win over Manchester United. Meanwhile, De Bruyne put himself firmly in the running with four goals against Wolves on Wednesday night, and pushing City closer to the title.

Sadio Mane has picked up where Salah left off though, scoring some crucial goals for the Reds. And Peter Crouch put the Senegal forward in his top five picks, along with the other two Liverpool heavyweights and both City boys.
Speaking before City's European heartbreak, Crouch told the Mail: "This year, if Manchester City win the Premier League and Champions League, you would have to pick Phil Foden or Kevin De Bruyne. I’d potentially go for Foden because he has consistently been a shining light for them.
"There are plenty of others you could choose and the same goes for Liverpool. The performances of Virgil van Dijk have been an absolute joke. Sadio Mane as well, coming back from winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal and picking up where he left off. He has to be in the conversation.
"I do seem to be skirting around the fact that Mo Salah — already crowned FWA Footballer of the Year — has the most goals and assists this season. Clearly he has to be in there, given how electric he has been throughout the campaign, even allowing for him going off the boil slightly in recent weeks.
"Those five names are my list and it has to be one of them. If the two clubs trade trophies, Salah pips the others in my view for his sheer weight of goal contributions."
