Adrien Rabiot admits he made the “best decision” rejecting a move to Manchester United and staying at Juventus. United agreed a deal to sign the Frenchman in the summer but the move broke down over personal terms.
Erik ten Hag was in the market for a midfielder and Rabiot was one of a host of players they looked at signing. With the 27-year-old entering the final year of his contract, Juve were willing to sell.
A fee of £15million, rising to a potential £20m, was agreed between the two giants of European football. But Rabiot ended up staying in Turin after failing to come to an agreement with United.
Speaking this week, Rabiot has addressed speculation over his future. He is still yet to sign a new deal with Juve, meaning he could speak to foreign clubs in January regarding a potential pre-contract agreement.
But having started 16 times under Massimiliano Allegri so far this season, he insists he was right to stay at the Old Lady. Rabiot told Gazzetta dello Sport: “It’s true, there were contacts in the Premier League, but in the end it was perhaps fortunate that I stayed, perhaps the best decision.
“The Premier League remains the most followed league, but the future I don’t think about. The club and I will have time to weigh every possibility.”
United opted to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid after failing to lure Rabiot. The Red Devils splashed out considerably more on the Brazilian than they had agreed with Juve.

Meanwhile, Rabiot is part of the France squad aiming to win back-to-back World Cups in Qatar. He refused to be a reserve player when Didier Deschamps’ side won it in Russia in 2018 but is now ready to go full circle.
He added: “I think I’m at my best physically and mentally. Playing the World Cup is a dream that wasn’t realized four years ago in Russia, now instead I’m enjoying it to the fullest, thinking back even to the most intense memories of when I was a child: the 2006 World Cup, the cheering at every game, a pity only for the final lost on penalties against Italy.
“It will be complicated because as defending champions everyone will want to beat us. The favorites? Argentina, not only because it will be [Lionel] Messi’s last, and then watch out for Holland. It will be a good collective challenge, but we want to write history.”
