Adrian Chiles had ‘random as hell’ urge to throw glass of wine at Andy Townsend
Adrian Chiles claims his ADHD meant he once had the urge to throw a glass of wine over former footballer Andy Townsend.
The TV presenter said he felt the “random as hell” temptation to hurl the drink at Townsend during a pleasant chat. He could not understand why he had the urge until he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Chiles told Gabby Logan's Mid Point podcast his condition became clear after reading a book called Delivered From Distraction by Edward M Hallowell.

Chiles said Hallowell wrote: "Sometimes I’m talking to someone, I’m having a really nice conversation over a glass of wine, and I get this urge to throw the wine in their face."
Chiles, 56, said: "I actually had exactly that and I think it was Andy Townsend. I just had to text him.
"I said, ‘Look, bear with me here. This is random as hell. I’ve just got to share it with you’. Andy, being lovely, we just talked about it.

"I mentioned this diagnosis to my PA, my younger daughter who was 16 at the time and a friend of mine, all three of them very cynical people and they all went 'nah, b******s'.
"Then I showed them two pages from this book where it outlines the classic symptoms of ADHD and they all reacted the same, just closed the book and said 'yeah, that's you'."
Chiles and Townsend were colleagues from 2010 to 2015 when the former fronted ITV Sport's football coverage. Since being axed from the role, his broadcast career has mainly focused on radio work rather than TV appearances.
Now aged 56, he's also a columnist for The Telegraph. As well as opening up on his ADHD, Chiles has previously spoke candidly about his alcohol troubles.
