Adebayo Akinfenwa has late penalty saved by defender who used to be his fan
Adebayo Akinfenwa spurned the chance to mark his return to football in Beast Mode style after missing a last-minute penalty during a non-league match on Saturday.
The man once dubbed the world's strongest footballer officially hung up his boots in 2022 following Wycombe's defeat in the League One play-off final, but he came out of retirement earlier this month to turn out for Isthmian League South East side Faversham Town.
Right at the death of their clash against Sittingbourne, Faversham, who were 1-0 down, were awarded a penalty, and as the most experienced man out there, Akinfenwa stepped up.

He was probably pretty confident too after watching Sittingbourne's goalkeeper Harley Earle limp off with an injury and be replaced between the sticks by defender Harrison Pont, who as it turns out used to cheer Akinfenwa on from the stands during his Gillingham days.
The 40-year-old striker even attempted a cheeky stuttered run-up, but Pont held his nerve, stood his ground and palmed Akinfenwa's shot away to his left to seal the win, and ruin the hardman footballer's day.
If you could save a penalty against any footballer from history, who would it be? Let us know in the comments section below.
Pont tweeted a photo of his save after the match, along with caption: "From supporting him at [Gillingham's stadium] Priestfield to saving his pen," along with a peace sign emoji.
Akinfenwa, who previously had spells at the likes of Swansea, Northampton and AFC Wimbledon, made his debut for Faversham mere hours after being announced as their new signing, but it was a debut to forget.
He was named in the starting line-up against relegation rivals Lancing, but was hooked at half-time after failing to make much of an impact.
Faversham are 19th in the league, just a point off the bottom and a whopping 10 points adrift of safety.
