Achraf Hakimi's agent speaks out after Manchester City launch raid on PSG
Achraf Hakimi’s agent says the defender will consider his options this summer amid speculation Manchester City have made an approach for the Paris Saint-Germain star.
The 24-year-old enjoyed another strong campaign for the French champions – scoring five times and laying on three assists – while he also starred at the World Cup for Morocco.
He has now emerged as a summer target for treble winners City, with Spanish newspaper Marca claiming the Madrid-born, Real academy graduate is viewed as the ideal successor to Kyle Walker.
The England international has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich while Joao Cancelo remains surplus to requirements after being loaned out in the second half of last season.
That leaves City in need of a new right-back and Marca are reporting that Pep Guardiola has firmly set his sights on Hakimi, with first contact already made.
But he still has three years left on his contract, which runs until 2026, while PSG would expect a mammoth fee after paying around £60million to sign him from Inter two years ago.
Hakimi would likely need to force a transfer but now his agent, Spaniard Alejandro Camano, has suggested the defender could seek a new challenge depending on what happens at PSG during the summer.
‘Achraf wants to be happy in a sports project with a future, he is 24 years old and went to PSG with great enthusiasm, there were other teams behind him and we bet on PSG,’ he told Spanish newspaper AS.
‘He has three years on his contract and we want him to be calm. What can happen? I don’t know, at some point we will have to sit down with PSG and rethink the situation, but we are seeing what the club does… which at the moment has no coach.
‘When PSG has a coach and communicates what the project is, we will see. It’s one of the best clubs in the world. We’ll wait for that to stabilise and see.’
Managerless PSG have lost the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos already this summer and there is speculation Kylian Mbappe could be sold if he refuses to extend his contract, with his current deal expiring in 12 months’ time when he would be able to leave on a free transfer.
Marca’s report claims Hakimi is very attracted to the possibility of moving to the Etihad, particularly following their treble-winning campaign, and he is open to the move.
City, meanwhile, are close to wrapping up a deal to sign Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea while they are also looking to prise Josko Gvardiol away from RB Leipzig.
