Aaron Ramsey is reportedly set to turn down a huge financial contract in Saudi Arabia to return to his boyhood club Cardiff City.

The 32-year-old midfielder played his youth career with the Bluebirds, before leaving in 2008 to join Arsenal, becoming a legend at the Gunners across 11 years of service.

Now with Ligue 1 Nice, it is thought that Ramsey is plotting the next month of his illustrious career away from France.

The Sun report that the Welshman is set to turn down a big deal to join the Saudi Pro League so that he can once more line up for Championship side Cardiff City.

Ramsey was thought to be carefully considering the possibility of moving to the Middle East – but canned the idea in favour of returning to where it all started.

The Welshman came through Cardiff’s youth system before leaving to join Arsenal in 2008

He said his next move would be a family decision – and with his relatives based in south Wales, it makes sense to select Cardiff rather than an option in a foreign continent.

Mail Sport previously reported that the Welsh captain met with Cardiff boss Erol Bulu after the national team’s shocking 4-2 defeat to Armenia last month.

Ramsey previously lined up for Cardiff in 2011 during a brief loan spell after breaking his leg while at Arsenal.

On Monday, Nice said they expect Ramsey to return to pre-season training next week, but is thought the Wales captain is negotiating an exit from his contract.

An automatic 12-month extension was triggered after he played a set number of matches last season – but he has failed to agree a new long-term deal.

Cardiff finished 21st in the Championship last season, and will find it a stern test to maintain their status in the second tier of the English pyramid in the forthcoming campaign.

Ramsey moved to Juventus after the end of his time at Arsenal, joining Rangers on loan in 2022, before his most recent season playing for Nice.
