Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale enjoyed a stellar afternoon against Leicester City on Saturday as he made a string of magnificent saves to help his side to a 2-0 Premier League victory. The shot-stopper has been in outstanding form since signing from Sheffield United during the summer.

Ramsdale clearly relished his time in the spotlight on Saturday and gave as good as he got when the Leicester fans goaded him with the usual fan banter from the terraces.

As Ramsdale steadied himself to take a free-kick from inside his own penalty area, Leicester fans heckling him courtesy of a profanity-littered chant.

In a video posted on Reddit, the goalkeeper can be seen turning to the Leicester fans after kicking the ball upfield and joining in with the end of their chant as he punches the air.

Ramsdale’s actions were accompanied by a beaming smile to illustrate just how much he was enjoying being the centre of attention during the match.

The 23-year-old’s best moment came just before the break as he somehow managed to tip a James Maddison free-kick onto the crossbar.

The curling effort looked destined to find the back of the net and reduce the Foxes’ deficit after they had gone two goals down after only 18 minutes.

Ramsdale then got straight back to his feet to deny Jonny Evans’ follow-up, before the ball was eventually cleared off the line.

Leicester constantly asked questions of the away shot-stopper but weren’t able to find a way through as the Gunners departed with three points.

The former Bournemouth keeper’s antics when taunted by the home supporters show just how much he is growing into his role as Arsenal’s number one.

And Ramsdale was subsequently extolled by Arsenal icon Martin Keown for his antics in the east Midlands.

“You need a character,” Keown told BT Sport after the match. “I was always fortunate to play with some fantastic goalkeepers.

“He looks like a real character. The fans now love him. It helps when you’re throwing shirts into the crowd but it certainly helps more when you’re pulling off outstanding saves as he did.

“On average last year he made the second most saves last season and his average was four.

“He is happier being busy and the really classy goalkeepers have to do this once or twice in a game and that’s the next step as Arsenal progress and get better.

“But he had a lot to do today and Arsenal are thankful for that, that he was pulling off those saves. But in the future let’s minimise what the goalkeeper has to do.”

Ramsdale has now kept five clean sheets in eight games since moving to the Emirates Stadium.

And he’ll be hoping to build on his superb start when his side host Watford next Sunday.
