7 stars Man Utd have already signed for the future as Amad Diallo set to arrive

Manchester United have adopted a youth-first policy in recent years when it comes to transfers.

Fans will remember their unsuccessful bid to sign 20-year-old wonderkid Jadon Sancho in the previous summer window, but they were still able to get a few young faces through the door.

Alex Telles was their oldest signing of the window, as he was 27 when he signed from Porto.

But him aside, United moved for young players to build for the future, with a policy of signing cheap young players and integrating them in the youth sides before taking them through to the first-team.

Here are seven young stars United have already bought for the future.

Amad Diallo

The first player in the list is Amad Diallo, who is set to join Manchester United this month after his move from Atalanta.

The winger, 18, impressed at the Italian side while coming through the youth ranks, and officially signed for United in the previous transfer window.

While his signing wasn’t confirmed in time for him to join immediately, he has now received clearance to join.

He is expected to immediately join up with the first-team side, and could be in line for his first-team debut this month.

Diallo is an exciting winger who uses his speed to break past players and over tackles, and he could be the answer to United’s right-wing problems.

Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek may have struggled to break into the first-team so far this season, but it’s worth remembering he’s still just 23 years old.

The central midfielder was the showpiece signing of the summer, having cost £40.5million from Ajax, but he is still yet to make an impression under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He’s only started two Premier League games, and has been left behind Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Scott McTominay in the pecking order.

But he could find himself more involved in the future with Pogba linked with a move away next summer.

His age means there’s no rush for him to be involved in the first-team, and he could well be a leading future for years to come.

Facundo Pellistri

Facundo Pellistri is edging closer to making a first-team debut for United after his move from Penarol.

The 19-year-old Uruguayan ace signed for just less than £10m in the summer, and has looked impressive in the youth ranks.

He has the ability to play on either wing or through the middle, making him a verstaile option long-term for United.

Given his age, he could likely play on the opposite wing to Diallo and give United a frighteningly quick forward line.

Hannibal Mejbri

Hannibal Mejbri, 17, looks like he could be United’s most exciting prospect at the moment.

The wonderkid plays in the middle of midfield and is reportedly set to be fast-tracked into the first-team.

He played 19 times for the youth side last season across all competitions, and is reportedly well-fancied by Solskjaer and his coaching staff.

Mejbri cost United £4.2m back in 2017, but a series of incentive fees could see that fee rise to £8.4m.

Tahith Chong

Tahith Chong, 21, is currently out on loan at Werder Bremen after inking a new contract last year.

United were desperate to keep hold of the young protegee after speculation had linked him with a move away.

A series of European clubs were said to be queueing up for his signature before he signed a new deal.

This season, the winger has played 12 times in the Bundesliga, providing an assist for the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Mainz.

Lukasz Bejger

Lukasz Bejger isn’t a name that will be too familiar to United fans at the moment, but that could all change in a few years’ time.

The tall defender was signed from Lech Poznan back in 2018 when Manchester City were eager to acquire his services.

He’s played five times for the youth sides in the Premier League 2, and has the ability to play as either a centre-back or a right-back.

The 18-year-old is out of contract in the summer, so United will have to act quickly to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Aliou Traore

United pulled off a masterstroke to sign Aliou Traore from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

The central midfielder is currently out on loan at French side SM Caen, where he’s made 11 appearances in Ligue 2 this season.

At just 19, he’s definitely one for the future and has already shown off his versatility by playing all over the place for Caen, featuring on each wing and through the middle.

Like Bejger, Traore’s contract expires this summer, so the club will have to make their move soon in order to avoid losing him for free.
