6 incredible Sturridge moments on Sky Sports – singing Usher to Keane impression

Words alone would not do Daniel Sturridge's first permanent appearance as a pundit for Sky Sports justice, but here goes.

Fans knew of the former Liverpool, Chelsea and England striker's idiosyncrasies and pop-culture referencing humour from his posts on social media. But few could've have imagined that the 33-year-old would completely reshape the vibe of 'Super Sunday' on his debut.

The football itself, first a match between Brentford and Tottenham and later a clash between giants Chelsea and Liverpool, would almost play second fiddle to Sturridge's chaos.

His rapport with Micah Richards was natural while he also provided the perfect foil to Roy Keane's stoic demeanour, visibly leaving the Irishman dumbfounded on more than one occasion. And so Daily Star Sport walks you through Sturridge's marvellous and moments as he stole the show on Sunday.

Unprecedented attire

It seems even Sturridge’s fellow Sky Sports pundits were stunned by his let’s say – casual – attire as Richards posted a short clip on his Instagram story. Richards and Keane were backstage when the Manchester City icon panned to Sturridge – who was lounging in his chair in a white vest while the others wore smart clothing.

A shocked Richards said: “D Studge. This is the first time someone’s been seen with a vest [on the show]!” while Sturridge nonchalantly responded: “Hey man, listen, got to be comfortable you know.”

Stanky leg

Sturridge dropped an absolute gem during his analysis of Brentford’s forwards prior to Sunday’s opening clash between the Bees and Tottenham. Talking about Bryan Mbeumo, he said: “He’s very dynamic. Very aggressive in attack. Very skilful. Prone to making defenders do the stanky leg.”

Having left his colleagues and millions more at home baffled with the social media dance craze reference, the striker went on to give a demonstration in front of the cameras later on in the show.

Keeping it funky

In incredible scenes, Sturridge began his post-match interview with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold by saying: “Keep it funky with your boy, alright.”

As Alexander-Arnold burst out laughing by the sheer randomness of the comment, Sturridge continued: “Starting from the beginning in midfield do you fancy that?” Meanwhile, Keane looked blankly into space, seemingly questioning life.

Keane impression

Giving his insight on the incident where Mohamed Salah lashed out after being subbed off by Jurgen Klopp, Sturridge sympathised with Salah’s reaction, while Richards said: “You was a big baby [as a player], let’s be honest.”

Sturridge responded: “I was not a baby,” and then added: “He’s a big baby,” in Keane’s voice, referencing the Irishman’s famous line with regards to Andy Robertson. Keane was left mildly amused, shaking his head and then rolling his eyes.

More Keane banter

The former Liverpool star took it upon himself to troll Keane once more by asking the ex-Manchester United skipper: “Roy, would you have fancied playing out there in that game today? Do you think there was more time in the ball where you could’ve…”

Keane interjected: “Well, I’m not sure but I think the role I played particularly towards the end of my career… I would have survived,” leaving his colleagues laughing with the sarcastic clap-back.

Usher impersonator

As an eventful first Super Sunday appearance came to a close, Sturridge delivered one more surprising moment in the limelight.

Asked about his initiation song for the show, Sturridge was given the go-ahead by Richards, who brought up artist Usher as a potential rendition choice. Without a single moment passing, the ex-England international burst into song, belting out Usher’s ‘Nice & Slow’ on live television.

Keane was once again left speechless at the rendition, saying when asked for his thoughts: “Very nice(!) Where did it all go wrong?”
