5 clubs Kylian Mbappe could join if PSG fail to win the Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he is unsure whether Kylian Mbappe will stay at the club if they fail to win the Champions League this season.

PSG are in danger of being eliminated from the competition, having been beaten 2-1 by Manchester City in the first leg of their semi-final clash.

Mbappe's contract is due to expire in 2022 and, when asked about the forward's future, Pochettino explained that PSG were "doing their best to ensure that he stays".

He said: "It's a question for Kylian and not for me. We lost a game but there is still the return leg and weird things can happen in the Champions League. He has one more year of contract.

"I said it before but the club and I are doing our best to ensure that he stays for many years. The club is working on it and Kylian Mbappe is happy with us. We have one month of competition left to achieve the objectives set and we are still in the race."

With that in mind, Mirror Football takes a look at five clubs Mbappe could join if he does leave PSG this summer.

Liverpool

The Reds have been linked with a move for Mbappe and manager Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the player, previously telling RMC Sport: "I love him, to be honest. What a player he is and a nice lad as well, so he's a really good kid. What a player, what a player."

Mbappe has also spoken highly of the way Liverpool play under Klopp, saying: "What Liverpool do is amazing. They're like a machine."

Real Madrid

The La Liga giants have also been heavily linked with Mbappe and, according to Spanish outlet Sport, their financial problems may not prevent them making a move.

It is claimed that Real Madrid are willing to offer Raphael Varane and Vinicius Junior to PSG as 'bargaining chips', in a bid to reduce Mbappe's asking price.

Mbappe has previously revealed that current Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was his first idol and the potential to work with him at the Bernabeu will surely be a strong draw

Manchester City

With Sergio Aguero set to depart the club when his contract expires this summer, City are in the market for a new forward and Mbappe would certainly fit the bill.

According to a report from French publication Le Parisien, City are among the clubs interested in signing the 22-year-old, claiming they are 'ready to break the bank' to sign him.

Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Serie A giants Juventus this summer and, if they are able to offload the Portuguese superstar then it could free up funds to make a major signing.

According to L'Equipe, Ronaldo is earning £900,000-a-week at Juventus and, if he leaves, Juventus could look to bring in Mbappe as his replacement.

Manchester United

Manchester United are also in the market for a striker this summer and they have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland.

However, a report from the Manchester Evening News earlier this month, named Mbappe as a player United are monitoring, in regard to his contract situation.

It is claimed United do have the finances to make a marquee signing this summer and, with a goalscorer on the agenda, Mbappe fits the bill.
