£130m Erling Haaland ranked as most valuable Premier League star

The world’s 100 most-valuable footballers: £130m Erling Haaland is top of the Premier League podium ahead of Phil Foden, Luis Diaz, Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal stars – but falls short of the top two in CIES boffins’ list

  • Erling Haaland has been named as the Premier League’s most valuable player
  • He is worth £130.4m, more than double the £51.2m that Man City paid for him
  • Kylian Mbappe is the most valuable player in the world after his new PSG deal
  • 18-year-old Jude Bellingham is worth more than any other English player

Manchester City’s new arrival Erling Haaland has been named as the most valuable player in the Premier League by the CIES Football Observatory.

The 21-year-old is said to be worth £130.4million, more than double the £51.2million that City paid to activate his Borussia Dortmund release clause this summer.

CIES calculate a player’s transfer value based on factors including their salary, their club’s performance in different competitions and the length of time remaining on their contract.

It means that Kylian Mbappe has shot to the top of the world list, with the French forward valued at £175.7million after signing a new three-year deal at PSG worth £650,000-a-week.

Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, the match-winner in the Champions League final, is second at £158.4million.

Phil Foden (£106m) is the next most valuable player in the Premier League behind Haaland, followed by Luis Diaz (£94m) and Ruben Dias (£93.7m).

18-year-old midfielder Jude Bellingham is worth more than any other English player at £114.3m

However, Foden is not the most valuable English player on the list. That honour goes to 18-year-old Jude Bellingham, who is said to be worth £114.3million. There are 18 members of the Three Lions in the top 100, more than any other nation.

Meanwhile, the Premier League is the best-represented league with 41 players. Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne (£48.9m), who turns 31 at the end of this month, is the oldest player on the list. Barcelona midfielder Gavi (£50m) is the youngest at 17 years old.

Manchester United have their sights set on Frenkie de Jong this summer and the Dutchman is valued at £96.2m. If United pay that figure, they will break their transfer record. Chelsea target Lautaro Martinez is said to be worth £91.2million.

Haaland’s valuation emphasises how much of a bargain Manchester City have got for a striker who scored 29 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund last season.

‘We have arguably the best No 9 in the world, at the right age,’ City CEO Khaldoon Al Mubarak said. ‘When you look at the next 10-15 years with Haaland, we’ve invested in a striker for the future.

‘He is a very unique, incredibly talented striker that the whole world has been looking at. Every big team in the world wanted Haaland to join and we are absolutely delighted that he chose to join Manchester City.’
