Dan Biggar ruled out of Northampton’s Premiership clash against Harlequins after picking up leg injury in Six Nations win over England… but Wales fly-half could return for resumption of Grand Slam bid next week

  • Dan Biggar suffered a leg injury in Wales’ Six Nations win over England last week
  • The fly-half will not play for Northampton in Sunday’s match with Harlequins
  • Wales are hopeful Biggar can return for the final two rounds of the Six Nations
  • Wayne Pivac’s side face Italy then France as they eye the Grand Slam title

Dan Biggar is set to miss Northampton’s Premiership game against Harlequins on Sunday with a leg injury picked up in the England win – but Wales are confident he will be fit for their Grand Slam push.

The fly-half went off early in the England win that sealed the Triple Crown for Wayne Pivac’s side as well as top-spot in the Six Nations table.

‘He has got an injury that he’s nursing, but we are very optimistic for next week,’ said attack coach Stephen Jones.

‘We will find out on Monday, but the reports are that we are pretty optimistic that he is going to be available to us.’

Welsh scrum-half Kieran Hardy, who scored in the victory over England, is out for up to six weeks with a low-grade hamstring tear.

‘We thought his performance was excellent on the weekend, and it is unfortunate for him that he’s not in a position to be able to be able to back that up,’ added Jones.

Wales’ next Six Nations game sees them take on Italy in Rome next Saturday which takes place before France’s trip to Twickenham to take on England and Ireland’s visit to Scotland.

Pivac’s Wales then travel to France on the final weekend of the tournament in a game which could well decide their Grand Slam and Six Nations fate.
