Owen Farrell could make a speedy return for England’s opening Test after passing the early stages of his concussion protocols.
The inside back was unable to fly to England’s training camp in Jersey this week and has instead been working with the medical staff at Saracens.
He is undergoing a 12-day stand-down period but Saracens coach Mark McCall revealed he could still feature against Argentina next week.

‘Owen’s been in at the club over the last two days to see the medics and go through the procedures and the process that he has to,’ said McCall.
‘We’ll wait and see. There’s still a chance that he’ll be able to play game one, so fingers crossed that’s the case. He’s certainly going in in good form. He’s had a really strong start to the season and hopefully he’ll be OK, I think.’
Farrell’s return would provide a boost to England’s leadership stock, with skipper Courtney Lawes also side-lined with concussion. Lawes is set to see a specialist and club coach Sam Vesty on Tuesday was unable to offer a time-scale for his recovery.
‘He’s passed certain elements and he needs to get other bits sorted,’ said Vesty. ‘As a game we’ve improved and learned how important player welfare is. It’s important the proper process is followed for Courtney and everyone else in that situation.’
If Farrell is fit, it will provide a boost for England coach Eddie Jones with captain Courtney Lawes also sidelined
Vesty revealed that Lawes’s team-mate Tommy Freeman is no longer wearing a protective boot and is closing in on a comeback.
And fellow speedster Henry Arundell, who is undergoing rehab in Jersey, could also return for the end of the autumn campaign.
‘Henry’s is a small bone issue we would hope will clear up in maybe three weeks,’ said London Irish coach Declan Kidney.
‘He’s got an injury which looked like it would rule him out for the whole of November. The medics are hopeful he might be available for some of it.’
