Kyle Sinckler is set to be recalled by Eddie Jones today as England face further disruption to their front-row selection plans – with Bath prop Will Stuart in danger of missing the autumn campaign.
During the summer tour of Australia, when Sinckler was left at home to recover from a back injury, Stuart started all three Tests at tighthead and made a sterling contribution to a 2-1 series victory. But he was helped off early in his club’s defeat at Saracens on Saturday and it is understood that he has suffered a serious knee injury which could rule him out for an extended period.
The good news for Jones is that Sinckler made a timely return to form for Bristol against Gloucester on Saturday. At his best, the 29-year-old is the country’s pre-eminent No 3 and a world-class asset.

When England’s head coach names his squad this morning for November encounters with Argentina, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa at Twickenham, he is also destined to recall Henry Slade who, like Sinckler, missed the summer tour and a training camp earlier this month. Sale scrum-half Raffi Quirke is in contention after an impressive return from long-term injury, but it is unlikely that Ollie Lawrence will be picked yet, despite the centre’s exploits since joining Bath from Worcester.
Tour captain Courtney Lawes has resumed contact training after a head knock, but others who were on duty Down Under are unavailable. Jamie George has already been ruled out of the autumn series, as has Sam Underhill, while Alex Dombrandt, Charlie Ewels, Ollie Chessum and Nick Isiekwe have all been absent in recent weeks.
Argentina are expected to recall Newcastle’s try-scoring sensation, Mateo Carreras, after footage of his stunning, long-range strike at Northampton on Saturday – posted on social media by the Falcons – had attracted more than half-a-million views by yesterday afternoon.
