Women’s points cap must be regulated after Broncos pact, says NRLW Titans coach
NRLW Titans coach Jamie Feeney has urged the NRL to strictly regulate the women’s points-system cap this year as the dominant Broncos side refuses to split up.
With the expansion of the NRLW to six teams for the 2021 season, the NRL had hoped to spread the talent by introducing 30 marquee contracts – five for each club.

“It’s a second layer of trying to distribute the talent. I just hope that it’s enforced when it comes to squad numbers and final squads because it’s been in place for a few years now but hasn’t really come into play,” he said.
This year, the points cap will be set at 130 for each squad of 24.
Players are allocated points based on their inclusion in previous representative sides. For example, they get 10 points if they have played for the Jillaroos or Kiwi Ferns, and eight points if they have played in State of Origin.
Feeney said while he respected the Broncos stars’ desire to remain with the club, he believed the competition needed to be even.
“There comes a point in time that you can’t have all the best players playing for one club,” Feeney said.
“The best part about the women’s game is that everyone who works in it, not all of the players but most of the players, think about the game first.”
Broncos coach Kelvin Wright defended his players and said he took no part in the squad’s decision to stick together.
“It goes to show the culture and how close those players are. It’s a big decision for them to make,” he said.
“I can understand where everyone is coming from but ultimately, I believe the players should be able to make their own decisions on what is best for them.
“Whether that’s money, whether that’s lifestyle, whether that’s playing with certain players, each player is going to value something different.”
The Titans announced Tazmin Gray, Karina Brown, Georgia Hale, Brittany Breayley-Nati and Crystal Tamarua as their marquee signings on Monday with Ali Brigginshaw, Millie Boyle, Tamika Upton, Tarryn Aiken and Amber Hall all returning to the Broncos for a shot at a fourth NRLW title.
