Reece Walsh risks missing the final State of Origin match and a chunk of the rest of the season after being referred to the judiciary for allegedly using an expletive aimed at referee Chris Butler.
Walsh lost his cool when the Broncos were penalised for an obstruction in the final minutes of Sunday’s loss to the Gold Coast.
The fullback was allegedly heard yelling the word “c—” before Butler marches the Broncos a further 10m and Brisbane players try to defuse the situation.
Butler is then heard telling skipper Adam Reynolds: “He [Walsh] will go the next one.”
Walsh defended himself on social media late on Sunday. He said the comment was never meant for Butler.

“I was not talking too [sic] to the ref, I clearly say that. Can also see Patty [Patrick Carrigan] come over and talk too [sic] me,” he posted on Instagram.
Reynolds also defended his teammate and said Walsh was “talking to a player on the other team”.
Canterbury’s Josh Reynolds was fined $1000 this season when he used an expletive to describe a decision by referee Grant Atkins. Players have also been suspended for using colourful language.
Brandon Smith was suspended for three matches last year for accusing Adam Gee of cheating.
Walsh is due to face the NRL judiciary on Tuesday night.
