Carlton defender Zac Williams has paid a loving tribute to his sister Sammy, who died on Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
Sammy had previously beaten cancer but found out just before Christmas 2021 that it had returned.
“Truly heartbroken but my beautiful sister Sam passed away yesterday,” Zac Williams said in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“She taught me so many things and showed me the true meaning of strength and love.”
Williams and his family went public with her terminal diagnosis at the end of April as they launched a Go Fund Me campaign for her husband and their three children.
The campaign has raised just over $25,000 towards a goal of $30,000 as of Wednesday evening.
The Blues posted a message of support on Williams’ post about his sister as did his former club GWS.
“We’re wrapping our arms around and giving all our love to Zac and the Williams family. Vale, Sammy,” the Blues wrote.
“Sending our love to you and your family,” the Giants wrote.
Williams is currently recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament suffered during pre-season in February and is not expected to play this season.
