Tommy’s hammy good as new as Sea Eagles slaughter Titans

Superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic has finished his first full game in ten months with a clean bill of health and an ominous warning for the rest of the competition.

Turbo scored a try, set up two and ran for 202m as Manly destroyed Gold Coast 36-0 in Mudgee, single-handedly reviving the Sea Eagles’ top eight ambitions in an incredible comeback to the NRL.

Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook joked Manly didn’t need Trbojevic given how badly the Titans played, but it’s clear they do.

The points flowed in attack and dried up in defence as a direct result of the Manly No. 1 creating confidence in those around him and pulling off the big plays when required.

It’s scary to think what Trbojevic might do with a few more games under his belt.

“It was good to be back playing some footy. The body is really good,” he said.

“I’ve missed a lot (of football) so you enjoy these moments.”

Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler declared Trbojevic’s comeback wasn’t the panacea for all his side’s early season problems, but he’s not fooling anyone.

“It was good to have Tommy’s knowledge and read and presence,” Hasler said.

“He is a super player. He does it very well – not only in attack but his work in defence.

“It’s a good start.”

Manly led 26-0 at halftime and were in second gear for the last 40, safe in the knowledge the out-of-sorts Titans would be throwing very little at them.

Hasler said: “It was important to build on last week’s win and create a bit of momentum.

“We’re very pleased to walk away with the win.”

The Titans came into the game on the back of three wins from their last four starts and an imposing recent record against Manly.

But they were never in the contest.

“We were blown off the park for the full game. We got to accept it and learn from it,” coach Justin Holbrook said.

“They probably didn’t need him (Trbojevic) given how poorly we played.

“We’ve got a very young side and the minute you think you’re travelling alright, something like that can happen.

“We got a real good rugby league lesson.”
