Tom Trbojevic confirms he’s ready to return in further boost for Sea Eagles

Tom Trbojevic has declared himself a certain starter next week against the Titans in Mudgee and, while plenty of Manly fans will be hailing him as the club’s saviour, he says Daly Cherry-Evans is still the key to Manly’s season.

Cherry-Evans slotted another match-winning field goal against the Warriors on Friday night – his 22nd NRL career one-pointer – as the northern beaches club celebrated its first win of the season.

“I’m still getting the Harry taunts now,” Trbojevic said. “It’s all in good fun. It’s all a laugh. Everyone wants to rubbish me now, but I won’t be partaking in any more foot races down the Corso.”

Trbojevic has enjoyed working with Rubin Ruzicka, a sprint coach he has known for years but only came on board at the Sea Eagles in an official capacity this year.

While Ruzicka has not made “Turbo” any faster, he said his technique was much more efficient.

Trbojevic knows only game time will bring greater confidence, but he said retirement had never entered his thinking during his many recent injury battles.

Skipper Cherry-Evans is happy to welcome Trbojevic back, especially after Makeshift fullback Dylan Walker broke down with his own hamstring injury on Friday night.

“He’s an elite fullback in the game, so we can’t wait to have him back,” Cherry-Evans said after the win over the Warriors. “Man, it’s nice to just win one without him.

“Obviously it’s been an ordinary month of footy for me personally. There are not too many of my teammates who will put their hand up and say it’s been a great month of football for them as well.

“I just knew I had to rock up and give my teammates a performance, not for anyone else other than myself and my teammates.

“I was playing sort of clouded. I just knew coming here that whatever came to me, I was going with it.”
