Tigers call off lawyers over ref’s error costing them win over Cowboys

Wests Tigers have given up any legal pursuit of the two competition points denied to them by a refereeing error in last month’s loss to North Queensland.

Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis and CEO Justin Pascoe met with NRL officials last week and were told a last-second escort penalty awarded to the Cowboys in round 19 was incorrectly awarded, but no indication of reversing the result was given.

A Tigers board meeting considered this further over the weekend and weighed up the procedural legality of North Queensland’s captain’s challenge that preceded the penalty.

After discussing the pros and cons, the Tigers have opted not to pursue the matter further, with the match result standing as is.
