The contenders for the top job at Collingwood
The Collingwood board will meet this week to discuss who takes over as club president following Eddie McGuire’s resignation. Here are the likely contenders.
The top candidates
Peter Murphy is a highly regarded figure internally, having orchestrated significant change at the start of 2018 when he led an internal review that helped the Magpies go within a kick of the premiership. Midway through the review in July 2017, Gary Pert stood aside and Murphy became interim CEO until Mark Anderson was appointed in March 2018.

Murphy is also experienced in working with communities as the founder of PAN Australia Group and global chair of Global Citizen as well as being trustee and chair of the Collingwood Foundation. He formally joined the board in February 2019 after filling a casual vacancy during 2018.
A Djab Wurrung/Gunditjmara woman, Jodie Sizer is the club’s first Indigenous board member. A lifelong Collingwood supporter, she joined the club in 2017. Sizer is co-founder and co-CEO of PWC Indigenous Consulting. As a member of the club’s integrity committee along with Murphy and Mark Anderson she commissioned the Do Better report.

Has been at the club since 2007 and served as vice-president. Has been considered keen to take on the role but is considered an outside chance.
Other board members
The following people are on the board but highly unlikely to ascend to the top role.
The former Australia Post CEO is capable but the club would be unlikely to turn to her given the recent controversies over expenses that led to a federal government investigation and led to her standing down from the job in November.
The ex-player and football director is a strong supporter of Murphy but would not be in the running as president. Has a strong reputation throughout the club.

Has been on the board since 1998 when McGuire became president. He is a chance to step away from the role later this year.
Not on the board
Long considered a potential successor to McGuire, sources suggest the 1990 premiership player is reluctant to move onto the board while his son Will is playing at the club.
