State of Origin live: Follow game three of QLD Maroons v NSW Blues
As Queensland tries to avoid its worst Origin result in more than two decades, our experts reveal their predictions for game three.
'A real shambles' – Paul Green grilled over Maroons Origin campaign
Queensland will be desperate to avoid the igmony of being swept for the first time in 21 years in an Origin series which has been played solely on its soil.
But NSW has been near unstoppable in the opening two games and despite being hit by injury, is still favoured to clinch its first 3-0 series in more than two decades.
Here’s what our experts are predicting for game three:
Phil Rothfield
NSW by 18
Man of the match: Tom Trbojevic
First try: Tom Trbojevic
Why NSW will win: Tom Turbo is a class above any player in the Queensland back five.
Peter Badel
NSW by 16
Man of the match: Latrell Mitchell
First try: Kalyn Ponga
Why NSW will win: The Maroons have had their confidence battered and simply can’t match the speed, power and attacking brilliance of NSW’s back five.
Dean Ritchie
NSW by 14
Man of the match: Jack Wighton
First try: Brian To’o
Why NSW will win: Because clueless Queensland are a shambles on and off the field.
Travis Meyn
NSW by 8
Man of the match: Latrell Mitchell
First try: Josh Addo-Carr
Why NSW will win: The Blues have been by far the better team this series and they will wrap it up with a well-deserved 3-0 clean sweep. The only thing that can beat NSW is complacency and that is unlikely to be the case after they blew it in Game Three last year.
Paul Crawley
NSW by 16
Man of the match: Latrell Mitchell
First try: Tom Trbojevic
Why NSW will win: Expect Maroons to put up best fight of the series but Blues just have too much strike.
Michael Carayannis
NSW by 12
Man of the match: Angus Crichton
First try: Brian To’o
Why NSW will win: Too much class. Too much skill. NSW will put a hapless Queensland side out of their misery.
Chris Honnery
Queensland by 1
Man of the match: Josh Papalii
First try: Tom Trbojevic
Why Queensland will win: The fear of losing an entire series on home soil should be motivation enough for the Maroons to turn things around in game three.
Nick Campton
NSW by 10
Man of the match: Latrell Mitchell
First try: Brian To’o
Why NSW will win: Losing the halves will slow the Blues down a bit but they still have too much strike around the park and should be able to handle an improved Queensland side.
Nick Walshaw
NSW by 20
Man of the Match: James Tedesco
First try: Jack Wighton
Why NSW will win: Teddy. Turbo. Trell.
Fatima Kdouh
NSW by 10
Man of the match: Latrell Mitchell
First try: Brian To’o
Why NSW will win: Not even injuries to Blues halves Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai can save the Maroons from a whitewash and their shambolic 2021 campaign
David Riccio
NSW by 18
Man of the match: Tom Trbojevic
First try: Jack Wighton
Why NSW will win: Repeat of Origin I and II — too fast, too powerful, too good.
Paul Kent
NSW by 12
Man of the match: Tom Trbojevic
First try: Tom Trbojevic
Why NSW will win: The Blues are just better.
