Rabbitohs-Sea Eagles clash erupts in chaotic brawl in final second

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have defeated the Manly Sea Eagles 26-12 at Lottoland but the final second has erupted in heated scenes with Jaydn Su’A sin binned.

With tempers on edge due to the horrific weather which has lashed every game this round so far, it took until the final moments for the game to boil over.

The surprise boilover came with the game decided and in garbage time when Manly’s Kieran Foran and the Rabbitohs’ Dane Gagai came together.

Fox League commentator Warren Smith said: “Things are really boiling over at Brookvale, they’ve turned back the clock. It’s not quite Stewart Vs Blair but the boys are fired up.”

As the sides were separated, Jake Trbojevic and Latrell Mitchell continued jawing at each other.

“Gagai and Garrick have been involved in a couple of scuffles the last five minutes,” Braith Anasta said. “You’d think the boys would just want to get in the showers. What are they doing? Good to watch though.”

Su’A was seen as the main instigator of the big scuffle, coming in hard but there was also vision of Cody Walker grabbing Jack Gosiewski from behind that got the commentators going.

“They’ve lost the plot,” Anasta added. “26-12 up with one second on the clock.”

The result was Su’A the only player sin binned but the Rabbitohs also got the penalty, with Mitchell missing the penalty shot.

It was a crazy finish to the game with the result sorted before the issue.

After the game, Souths coach Wayne Bennett was asked about the wild finish but flat batted it as his celebrations had already begun.

“I was in the change rooms on the drink when that happened so I have no idea,” Bennett said.

Manly coach Des Hasler said he was pleased by the “level of competition” after the Sea Eagles got back into the game twice.

The side had two big losses in the game, with forward Andrew Davey doing an ACL in the third minute of the game, while half Cade Cust suffered a heavy concussion.

It was an intriguing game with Souths only pulling away in the final 15 minutes.

Before that, it was a 14-12 game with the two points on the line until the Rabbitohs showed their class.

The Sea Eagles had earlier been the beneficiaries of a Mitchell sin bin, when skipper Daly Cherry-Evans fell to the ground while chasing a kick.

Commentators believed he was barely brushed on the way through and took aim at Cherry-Evans and the sin bin.
