Newcastle Knights mourn tragic death of promising junior in car crash
The rugby league community is in mourning after the death of Newcastle Knights junior Elijah Faalua in a car accident overnight.
The 17-year old was killed in an accident near Cessnock with police investigating the incident.
The car was being driven by another 17-year old before crashing into a barrier on a private road at Pelaw Main at about 11.15pm on Thursday night.

NSW Police said that Faalua suffered critical injuries after being “thrown from the front passenger seat and died at the scene.”
The 17-year old driver was taken to John Hunter Hospital with minor injuries and underwent mandatory testing.
“Officers from Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash,” NSW Police added in a statement.
“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.”
The Newcastle Knights also confirmed the tragic news on the club’s website.
“The Newcastle Knights extend our sincere condolences to the friends and family of Harold Matthews Cup player Elijah Faalua, who tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday,” the Knights said in a statement.
“The Club requests for all to respect the privacy of Elijah’s friends and family at this time.”
Faalua had been playing fullback, wing and centre in the Harold Matthews Cup team.
