‘I’m not here to defend myself’: Lyon responds to Langdon jibe
Ross Lyon says he is excited by the thought of being part of Carlton’s process to find a new coach, a vacancy for which he is the short-priced favourite.
Lyon, meanwhile, has confirmed he was contacted by Ed Langdon on Sunday following the former Fremantle midfielder’s inflammatory remarks about Lyon’s coaching style.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the Blues confirmed David Teague’s sacking, Lyon said he was looking forward to engaging with Carlton about the possibility of being the club’s new senior coach, but was mindful of pre-empting what would come next.
“It’s come to my front door, I haven’t gone out searching for anything.” Lyon said on Triple M on Sunday.
“I’m really happy to let the river flow here … There’s a long way to go, I want to respect the process. It’s exciting to be in the conversation of an AFL club.”
Blues president Luke Sayers confirmed in recent days he had spoken to Lyon about the opening.
Langdon, traded to Melbourne at the end of 2019, sparked a storm with comments he made speaking to AFL Nation following the Dees’ qualifying final win over the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

Speaking about Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin, Langdon said Goodwin’s style was a welcome change from the intense Lyon, who coached Langdon at the Dockers.
“I’ve come from five years of the Ross Lyon method, so it’s absolutely a nice change to have someone as cool, calm and collected as Goody,” Langdon said.
“I don’t think I’ve heard him raise his voice since I’ve been at the club.
“Coming over from Freo, where if you don’t look Ross in the eye at a meeting, he starts yelling at you, so it’s been a nice change.”
However, Lyon confirmed on radio that Langdon had been in touch to clarify his remarks, with the wingman claiming he had made a poor choice of words and had been taken out of context.
Lyon said he hadn’t actually heard the remarks before Langdon reached out, but the former St Kilda and Dockers coach was unapologetic.
“If it’s legitimate and that’s what he meant, and it was all seriousness, well I’m on a journey of growth and a growth mindset, I would take the feedback,” Lyon said.
“I know Ed, he’s really dry. I’m not here to defend myself or Ed. Ed can speak for himself…he was one of my favourites.”
