Des Hasler contract truth revealed by fine print clause
Manly Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler has got some job security with the club revealing that the parties had come to terms on a new deal.
Hasler was under fire after the Sea Eagles lost the round one clash to the Roosters in what was a record win for the Roosters and record loss for Manly in the first game of the season.

It sparked speculation that Hasler was already under threat but it was quickly revealed that Hasler and the Sea Eagles were looking at a two-year deal.
On Thursday, it was revealed that Hasler had in fact secured his short term future.
But in a careful choice of words on the Sea Eagles website, it said the deal will see “Hasler remain Head Coach for at least two seasons”.
But a report from The Daily Telegraphrevealed that it means 2021 and 2022, with the 2023 season dependent on the Sea Eagles’ results this season.
2021 is the final year of his current three year deal.
While he will be the Sea Eagles coach next year regardless of results, the performance clause means a top eight finish will be essential for Hasler to continue in the role for 2023.
And if the Sea Eagles become contenders, Hasler can extend to 2024.

Hasler was positive about the club’s future and the stocks coming through the ranks.
Hasler said he was pleased to have reached the new deal.
“I am very glad to have the opportunity to continue working with this high calibre group of players we have now and those who will emerge in the near future through our Pathways Program,’’ Hasler said.
“I am confident of delivering further success to the Manly Club. There is a great future ahead for the Sea Eagles.”
Manly CEO Stephen Humphrey said in a statement on Thursday that he was pleased to continue working with Hasler.
“Des is one of the most experienced and best credentialed coaches in the NRL and with an outstanding record of success,’’ Humphreys said.
“He has earned enormous respect from Sea Eagles players, Members and Corporate Partners alike.
“We are very fortunate to have Des at the Sea Eagles and are confident of, and committed to, adding to the success that has defined Manly for some 75 years.”
Hasler coached the Sea Eagles for eight seasons between 2004 and 2011, winning two NRL premierships with the Sydney-based club.

He then took charge of the Canterbury Bulldogs for six years before a messy divorce, where the coach took legal action to get a $1 million payout.
Manly finished 13th on the NRL ladder last year, winning only seven games in the 20-round season.
The club has struggled without superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic, without whom it boasts a pitiful 29 per cent win rate under Hasler’s guidance.
The Sea Eagles will next face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Brookvale Oval on Saturday afternoon.
