Cavalry returns for Richmond as Blues drop Murphy
Richmond will field a completely new-look team on Sunday with six inclusions for the match against Adelaide including their skipper Trent Cotchin and premiership midfielders Dion Prestia and Shai Bolton while again dropping premiership small forward Daniel Rioli.
Meanwhile Carlton have made a statement at selection dropping former skipper Marc Murphy to include Jack Martin as Sydney dropped father-son forward Nick Blakey.
But the big changes occurred at the defending premiers with dual premiership Tiger Josh Caddy – who did not play in the 2020 flag – also selected along with ruckman Callum Coleman-Jones and Mabior Chol as the Tigers look to get back on the winners’ list after their loss to the Brisbane Lions.
Although the return of key midfielders will make a massive difference to Richmond they will face the Crows without key talls with forward Tom Lynch having surgery on his knee and defender David Astbury battling an Achilles issue. Marlion Pickett is suspended, Patrick Naish has a hamstring injury while Jack Ross and Rioli were omitted.
The Crows made no changes to the team that upset the previously undefeated Melbourne in round 10.
Carlton lost Lachie Plowman to suspension and dropped Murphy with Levi Casboult and Martin named to play Sydney. The Swans will be without in-form ruckman Tom Hickey who continues to battle a knee injury with Robbie Fox out with an eye injury and Blakey was dropped.
Sydney included Callum Sinclair, Kaiden Brand and Jay McInerney for a game that gives them a chance to put a stronger grip on their position inside the top eight.
Orazio Fantasia has been included to replace veteran Hamish Hartlett who was a surprise omission from Port Adelaide’s team and Andy Brayshaw is back for the Dockers who lost marking forward Matt Taberner to injury.
Essendon’s key defender Aaron Francis has withdrawn from the match against West Coast on Saturday night due to illness with Brandon Zerk-Thatcher replacing him in the side.
