The 35-year-old was let go by the Tigers after last season, but always maintained he wanted to play on in 2021.
A deal to link with former teammate and Cowboys coach Todd Payten fell through before Marshall turned down signing the biggest contract in Super League history.
He was also linked to the Bulldogs and the Sharks as a short term option to cover for Matt Burton, who arrives at Belmore in 2022 and Shaun Johnson, who is out with an Achilles injury.
The New Zealand legend was always keen to stay close to family in Sydney and his dream to play on looks set to become a reality.

Marshall has scored 93 tries and 1,220 points in 324 games for the Tigers, Dragons and Broncos since his debut way back in 2003.
This is not the first time Bennett has come to Marshall’s rescue. Back in 2017, Bennett threw Benji a career lifeline to play under him at the Broncos where he played 13 games that season before rejoining the Tigers in 2018.
Where Marshall fits in at the rabbitohs remains to be seen with club skipper Adam Reynolds and Blues incumbent Cody Walker having a mortgage on the halves positions.
Marshall would likely have to bide his time to play a role in the Origin period or if injury strikes one of the key playmakers.
Regardless his experience will be invaluable as the Rabbitohs plot a premiership charge in Bennett’s last year at the club.
