‘Amazing he’s still playing’: Walters surprised Milford hasn’t quit NRL
After he dropped his $1 million man to reserve grade to play with the South Logan Magpies, Broncos coach Kevin Walters says he’s surprised Anthony Milford hasn’t walked out on an NRL future.
Milford has endured a difficult few years since helping inspire Brisbane to the 2015 grand final.
He was played in the halves and at fullback under Anthony Seibold with pundits divided over his best position.

Given the first five rounds to prove himself as Walters’ five-eighth, Milford was dropped for Brodie Croft and Tom Dearden as the Broncos prepare to face Penrith this weekend.

Milford is still only 26, but his price tag has been a millstone around his neck with Fox League pundit Greg Alexander criticising him last week by saying he had “stole” money from the Broncos such was his poor performance.
“You almost don’t give him another dollar because he’s absolutely stole money from them for the last four years,” Alexander said. “That would be part of my thinking.”
Walters said Milford bore a lot of weight on his shoulders and said he was surprised the Samoan international hadn’t quit playing full-time rugby league.
“The pressure he’s received in the five years since that game, it’s a lot to take on for a young man and I do feel sorry for Milf,” Walters said.
“In some regards he’s been accused of everything that’s happened here and it’s really unfair.

“When you look at it, the scrutiny and pressure he’s been under, it’s amazing that he’s still playing the game.”
Milford’s contract is up at the end of the season and Walters was asked if his big pay packet was a distraction.
The coach declined to give his view on that subject but said he hoped time playing in the lower grades would help him re-find his magic.
“It’s probably a question I shouldn’t answer; I don’t know how to answer that one so I won’t,” Walters said.

“More than any other he has been singled out but now the pressure’s off, he can go back, play his footy (in the Queensland Cup).
“It’ll be an interesting next four weeks for Anthony and where he’s at, mentally and physically.”
