The F1 world is about to get its first glimpse at Mercedes’ new car for the 2022 season, as the Silver Arrows become the latest team to show off their work from over the winter break. The likes of Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Toto Wolff will all be present at the event and will be speaking to the media once the W13 has been unveiled.

Mercedes are the eighth team to show off their new livery for the year ahead, after Haas got the ball rolling and the Silver Arrows’ main rivals Red Bull followed suit earlier this month.

Aston Martin, McLaren, AlphaTauri, Williams, Ferrari and now Mercedes have all done so as well, leaving only new designs from Alpine and Alfa Romeo still to come.

The car shown off by Mercedes this morning is not likely to be any true reflection of the car’s actual design for race events – no team on the grid has been too willing to give up their secrets as they head into a new era of the sport following a swathe of technical rule changes.

But as well as giving a moment in the sun to sponsors, the launch also gives fans the chance to hear from the team’s key personnel.

In Hamilton’s case, it will be the first time he has spoken in-depth publicly since losing the 2021 world title to Max Verstappen in controversial circumstances at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.

He is expected to speak about his feelings in the aftermath of that defeat, as he looks to get revenge on the Dutchman over the course of the coming campaign.

Hamilton and Wolff are also expected to give their reactions to the news that Michael Masi has been removed as race director by the FIA.

Both were said to be advocating for that move, and are expected to be pleased that the Australian has been replaced.

Meanwhile, it will also give a platform for Russell to speak live for the first time as a full-time Mercedes employee, after joining the side from Williams for the upcoming season.
