Reigning F1 king Max Verstappen has said fans that booing his victorious performance at the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday ‘won’t spoil my day’.

Verstappen continued his impressive streak at Monza, recovering from a five-place grid drop following an engine change to see off home favourite, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc’s challenge.

The result means that the Dutchman could potentially seal a second successive drivers title at the Singapore Grand Prix.

However, despite his success, the 24-year-old’s Red Bull driver’s victory was marred by the introduction of a safety car in the final stages after Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren broke down with an engine problem.

The fans at Monza voiced their displeasure with how the race ended, but Verstappen later explained that the crowd’s reaction in the aftermath did not faze him.

‘It happens, everyone speaks to me about it with the booing and stuff but at the end of the day I am here to try and win the race which we’ve done,

But fans at Monza voiced their displeasure with the conclusion of the race

‘Some people of course they cannot appreciate that because they are very passionate fans for a different team. It is what it is.

‘It is not going to spoil my day, I am just enjoying the moment.’

Though Verstappen’s victory looks to have ended Charles Leclerc’s hopes of mounting a serious title challenge, the Monegasque stated that he doesn’t agree with the crowd’s reaction to the defending F1 champion.

‘I think nobody likes booing and I think it shouldn’t happen. That’s it,’ Leclerc said following the race.
